New Castle House at Elephant and Castle a monstrosity

26 July 2009

Who's bright idea was it to allow planning permission for the new Castle House in Elephant and Castle?

Apparently part of the regeneration plan. The new Castle House towers way above the rest of Elephant and Castle and the old Castle House, which it has replaced, at about 43 storeys. It certainly does not fit in with the rest of the area and its cheap white plastic facade looks awful. This is definitely a white elephant - no pun intended.

Were the local community consulted or even considered? How will they benefit from this project? As a member of the local community I like others we have lost a great view of the city skyline and fantastic locations like the wheel.
